SOOOOOOO…

Here I thought the ‘Manly Man Free Service’ would be a hit…but nary a chortle appeared in my comments. **Sigh**

See, What I didn’t tell you is that Mr. Perfectly told Son #2 to run down and call themselves ‘Manly Man TREE Service’, but Son #2 heard incorrectly, and made the whole thing really funny by saying “Manly Man FREE Service”

I have a dilemma. I’m back on the Graduation Party issues……..My lovely grandparents may be coming. Grandpa is 91, and Grandma will be 87 this year (I believe). So, what’s the problem? She’s a clean freak. At their age, they clean BASEBOARDS every Monday…….(Monday is their deep cleaning day). Um……yeah. In the 17 years we’ve lived in our house, I can count easily on one hand how many times the baseboards have been cleaned in MY house. Same with the windows. Same with the wood floors (I mean they are swept up, but not SCRUBBED).

So, since my house stinks like the 3 resident dogs and 2 sweaty boys, I need to clean. CLEAN, people. And I detest cleaning---DETEST it.
What are some quick and easy solutions to work on odors from floors, walls and so forth? I’ve heard Murphy’s oil soap---and I suppose on the walls (which are in terrible shape---regarding dirt, that is), I’ll use ammonia. Maybe the stench of ammonia will cover the critter smell that lives with us.

I want easy effort ideas. Things that will allow as little hard labor as possible. I realize that this is a tall order, but I’m sure my good friends can come up with SOME solution!! Oh…and paying a service is out of the question. It would be too expensive.

Oh, and it needs to be quick, too……since the doggie smell may come back, I can’t clean too early in the month………it needs to be fresh as a daisy the week of 05/22/09.

The Tree Guys are back at the house today. I hope this will be the end of the ordeal. We will miss our pretty shade trees, but since they are dead (or nearly so), the shade they offered was minimal. The doggies won’t get to chase their squirrel friends, either.

Well, that’s about all I’ve got on this Monday Morning.
Toodles!!

Shelly, I started watching your video but I'm at work so I had to stop. Damn bosses! Anyway, here's my two cents on cleaning. Don't use ammonia, especially if you have cats. They think it's an invitation to pee. I don't think you have cats though so. Use Murphy's oil soap on the walls, molding and baseboards. Start with the rooms that will stay the cleanest (the least used rooms probably) and work your way up to the most heavily used rooms. Concentrate on areas that your Grandma & Grandpa are most likely to see. Pray for clouds that day because the sun is totally unforgiving.

Hi, Lynne!

yeah, the video is just a little long.......but funny nonetheless.....at least to me and Mr. p!!

Cats...yes we have one of those too....we do clean w/ ammonia with little issue with him......I've often wondered about the ammonia and the cat peeing.....he pees on things left on the floor. Towels and socks especially.

I live in a jungle.....and they are ALL boys........

You should reconsider the whole "a cleaning service is too expensive" thing. Instead of calling a service, just find a cleaning lady. Cleaning ladies are cheap. And they are sometimes handy for things besides cleaning.

You have to look at it this way: how much is an hour of your time worth? $50? $238.21? Then find a cleaning lady who charges your hourly rate. Take my lead. I value my time at roughly priceless per hour. If you also have a grandiose, narcissistic estimation of your self-worth, you will have no problem finding a cleaning lady who pays for herself.

If you refuse to hire a cleaning lady, even a very sexy one, then here is what you do: (1) fill a bucket with your cleaning solution of choice (Murphy's oil soap & water sounds good); (2) have everyone in your house put on athletic socks and step into the bucket one by one; (3) everyone then runs around the house rubbing their feet against the baseboards and sliding across the wood floors. Have Mr. Perfectly film the whole thing. Voila! Clean in an hour and an awesome blog post at your fingertips to boot!

I sometimes amaze myself with my genius.

Stoogie!! Will YOU come to Missouri wearing your very thickest tube socks and HELP US????

I'll do it if you'll come and help.

I'll hire the finest cleaning service our small town has to offer and have them deep clean every surface if you'll pay for it!!!! I'll then send them to your house so they can do YOUR bidding.

I love you, Stoogie!!! You always make me smile. And I agree....your genius is amazing.

Do NOT use ammonia on doggie odors like urine and poo (in case Dex had a few accidents when he first got there) it sets the odor and is trigger for all your critters that it's a pee spot. Go to any pet store or even Wal-Mat and pick up Nature's Miracle.

Oh, wait. Lynne just wrote that. My bad.

A quick wipedown of the walls, floors & baseboards with Murphy's or Pine-sol will work wonders, as will washing as much of the fabric in a room that you can. Bedskirts, rugs, curtains, towels, wipe down the couch, cushions, etc...If you have carpeting and have time, rent a Rug Doctor for a day.
Fabric tends to hold stink in.

Dingo--Isn't Nature's Miracle great?

We use it often,

WM--LUCKILY we got rid of all carpeting several years ago. We've always had a houseful of animals and boys, so carpet HAD TO GO. Besides, the lovely shade of Grass Green was too awesome for us to handle, so we forced ourselves to take it to the original 60's hardwood......too bad, huh?

I find vinegar and water work the best for the pet smells. The big plus is that your house will smell like a giant douche.

Just found you via Crissy's blog. This probably violates some child labor law, but I make my kids clean the baseboards and Clorox wipe the light switches. haha. Seriously, I do. When they act up, sass me, or say "I'm bored!", I hand them a wet rag with just a little bit of Murphy's Oil on it. Stoogepie has totally convinced me to hire a cleaning lady. I think it would be worth it.
